First things first...

Over recent months I've found a number of very helpful blogs that have given me some real insight into some theological issues that I am interested in...

As I am just now starting out on my own doctoral research in theology I felt that it might be a good idea for me to set up some kind of forum where I could 'speculate aloud', ask questions and engage with other thinking-faith-folk...

So, watch this space and thank you in advance for being willing to help me climb the very slippery and potentially dangerous pole of advanced theological study. Your support and indulgence are great appreciated...

Thank you.

  1. Welcome to the theo-blogosphere! What do you plan to address in your dissertation? What theological issues get you going?

  3. Welcome indeed - I am not trained in theology but being human I have an interest.

  4. Goodness, how cool is that?
I hadn't expected to hear from anyone except folk that I'd specifically invited so I am thrilled that you found me here! How on earth do you DO that?
Anyway, I'll be getting into more details of the dissertation very soon on here and I'll eagerly look forward to hearing your feedback.
Thanks guys for stopping in - any advice on 'running' a blog would be greatly appreciated as I kind of feel a little in the dark about it at the mo'...

  5. Hi Martyn,

one necessity to blogging is to get connected to Technorati. Once you have an account and their wigit, you will be informed everytime someone links to a post of yours. It helps you stay in touch with ripples you are creating in the blogosphere. You may also want to install some kind of stat counter so that you can see who is visiting your blog from where and when. I use this one. Check out the side bars of other blogs to see what other interesting gadgets you can download.

Tips about bloggin that I've heard are try to post regularly (though with the advent of the RSS feed that may not be so important ...) and keep your posts short and to the point (a challenge!). I try to respond to people when possible, as I hate leaving unanswered comments. Those are the tips I can think of, though I'm hardly an expert!

  6. Hey Martyn,

Great to see you going all out on your doctorate and this is a brilliant way of finding new corridors for research.

I'll drop in as often as possible and provide as much support as I can.

  7. With all sincerity, I just don't know how to thank you all for coming along and being willing to engage with me in this process. Thank you. Please note that I now have a side-bar that briefly delineates the general area of my research...

  8. Welcome aboard Martyn! Phil's advice is sound. Short posts are preferable and posting regularly is a must. I think at least once or twice a week is necessary to be considered a 'regular' poster. All the best!
