Why do you believe what you believe?

Wherever you're at in terms of belief, whatever your worldview, whatever ideas you adhere to - why do you do so?
I am VERY interested in why people believe the stuff they do (and indeed why they disbelieve...) and I'd welcome your contributions.
I am NOT seeking to belittle anyone or get into any arguments or attempts to 'convert' people. Instead, I would just LOVE to hear your perspectives and why you have them...

Thank you...

  2. Nice touch - its hard to argue with Luther's brash, strong sentiment isn't it?

  3. It also gets at the always already givenness of Christian faith. It is not something you can reason to.

  4. Surely belief is contextual and flexible? We are capable of altering our beliefs in all areas of life which suggests that we simply pick the most appealing argument or concept at that point in our lives. If belief can really be that weak and changable can we truly be said to believe anything or are we simply supporting a concept until a more appealing one comes along?
